FOCUS GROUP was responsible for revising the design and for managing and overseeing the construction of a luxury eco-resort on the island of Príncipe developed by HBD, a company with headquarters in Portugal that is currently involved in several projects in São Tomé and Príncipe in areas such as tourism, agriculture, social innovation and economic development.

Inaugurated in late 2017, the Sundy Beach Resort is located close to the Roça Sundy Hotel in the north of the island, the first of its kind on the island of Príncipe. It is notable for its luxury standards of hospitality, which set the bar for future projects on the island.

As a truly challenging undertaking, it aimed to prove, through its simplicity, that tourism can be sustainable in a place like the island of Príncipe. To this end, imaginative solutions had to be found to avoid the natural escalation of costs which tends to happen when a construction begins in remote, protected locations.
