The Ecopista do Dão greenway unfolds along 49.2 kilometres of the old Dão railway line, passing through the municipalities of Viseu, Tondela and Santa Comba Dão as part of the broader concept of Portuguese greenways incorporated in the European Greenways Network.

The proposed objectives were the urban rehabilitation of a degraded area from an integrated, environmentally-friendly standpoint, promoting and enhancing tourism in the region through healthy physical activity and encouraging leisure and social activities, using the bicycle as an alternative means of transport.

In September 2013, the Ecopista do Dão greenway won the award of excellence in the sixth edition of the European Greenways Award.
